My Grandfather taught me how to prune trees

A fond memory of my early 20's. My grandfather was retired living in a seaside mobile home park. He had been a foreman in Delano CA managing orchards and row crops. In retirement he still kept as busy as his physical health would allow. Taking care of his neighbor's yards... planting and tending flower beds. Trimming shrubs and trees.

Once when I was visiting, i tagged along as he went about the neighborhood, helping him out. We came to a property with a tree in need of pruning. He was just too tired, too old really to tackle it. So i stepped in and cut the branches as he coached me while sitting down in the shade. It remains a great memory of us bonding. Him passing on his knowledge to me. I learned a lot from him over the years....
After his death, I inherited his sheds full of tools. Many of which I still use today.

Thanks for sharing such a heartwarming story. My dad was a bit too over-protective and wouldn't allow me to use his tools. He did teach me great social skills and management skills though. I am just grateful for having a loving father who cared.
