You stayed because quitting or giving up is not who you are. You stayed so you wouldn't be one of those who couldn't make it work. You stayed for the kids. You stayed because it's all you've known for the last 27 years. You stayed because you told yourself "I'm only doing this once". You stayed because everyone you know has 'stayed'. You stayed to avoid embarrassment. You stayed out of fear. You stayed because you loved yourself last.

Long ago I stayed for the wrong reasons but few of them are in the quoted list. I walked away years later and also long ago fot better reasons than the previous ones. If self whatever was one of them it was not the main motivation, hopefuly.
That said, applauses and my respects to all the ones that dare to end what is not worth staying.
