I lived in an Italian neighbourhood for about 10 years, every spring you'd see the young teenaged boys start to hang out on a street corner, trying to look tough, smoking and spitting on the sidewalk, cursing and talking tough, then every once in a while one of the Italian Momma's would come roaring up to the corner, take off her slipper or sandal and the boys would scatter like satan himself was after them, sometimes the Momma had a big wooden spoon too. That was 25 years ago and I can still hear their voices yelling at the boys "I see you Guido and Gino, I'm a gonna tell a you Mommas", then they would grab their kid by the ear and drag him home bawling. It was hilarious really. I don't remember ever seeing one of them actually get hit with the slipper but the threat was apparently real enough! 🤪
