Shouldn't all kids get to ride the bus?

In this day if all the dangers of child abduction...why are any children walking to school? I pay taxes the same as the parents living 2 miles away. Some of these really cold days are too cold to walk even 3 blocks. What are your thoughts?

Errrm. Statistics show that children are actually safer now than they were in our and our parents day.

3 blocks reallh isn't that far. Do you not let your kids ruds their bikes or go to the park alone? Honestly the nore we shelter kids, the more dangerous itnis for them. Kids that are sheltered don't learn how to navigate the world and how to recognize and avoid danger.

@MethDozer we live farther than 3 blocks. I was just saying cold weather was far to walk in the cold. I agree kids get coddled too much for the most part. I will research those stats. I walked all over town without worry of abduction. Nobody shot up schools. Way less kids in foster care.

The stats saying kids are safer are going by death rates. Seat belts have made them safer in that respect. That has nothing to do with my concerns.

@Walea people below are correct. The world isn't any more dangerous in terms of predators and abductions. It's just that we hear of every case that happens anywhere in the nation or world so it seems like it is. The idea there are nore kidnappers ans pedos today is unsupported.
