Shouldn't all kids get to ride the bus?

In this day if all the dangers of child abduction...why are any children walking to school? I pay taxes the same as the parents living 2 miles away. Some of these really cold days are too cold to walk even 3 blocks. What are your thoughts?

School busing isn't free at all where I live. Children can either pay to ride the school bus, take the city bus, parents drop off and pick up in a vehicle, or you walk. Children walking is a very common sight here although winters are dangerously subzero and snowy. I walked over one mile to and from school with my siblings wearing multiple layers of clothes (parents got a phone call after they initially moved their children to this state and asked if they had financial issues because we didn't have adequate winter gear). You take those off when you get to school and put them back on to go outside or home. School was not cancelled until the wind chill was -40F at least and I have been sent home early told to go straight home because there's a ground blizzard, expected blizzard, or visibility will be near zero for us to see our way home later. Bottom line is regardless of the brutally cold winters normal daily life goes on for the most part, people use common sense, and the weather is adapted to as is seen fit.
