How do I get my dad to leave?

I asked my dad to help me move and we went on this road trip to my new living place and he’s still planning on staying here for a whole week. I love my dad but he’s starting to annoy me. All he talks about is politics and he won’t leave me alone. Any time I try to go somewhere to have some alone time because I don’t have a private space in our hotel room, he insists on coming along. Plus I’ll be starting a full time job so it’s not like he’s really going to see me anyway.

Time to be assertive with him. You are going to have a long term relationship with him, so you both have to change it from child-adolescent-adult, to adult-adult.

It is a hard thing to get out of doing for both people.

Explain to him your need for alone time or your need to chat about something other than politics, whichever is the most important.

Once you see a move, ensure you thank him - we all like appreciation.

Then start on the other.
