Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but I believe that no one eats until EVERYONE is sat down and ready to eat. So it doesn’t matter who gets a plate first, because you can not eat until everyone has food.

See I have that Idea too. I don't like eating when everyone doesn't have food, and when I married my wife, I always serve her first and she just starts nomming without me... Not a huge deal but it is just a weird difference.
It’s basic politeness and good table manners to wait. If I started before everyone else I would feel awkward. If my partner insisted on subservience I’d want control of the remote. Lol.
