Unraveling the past

Sometimes random thoughts enter my head.Recently I have been thinking about the impact that physical education at school had on me.Basically, apart from swimming and cross country,i hated every second of it.Yes,I was pretty hopeless at most of it,no getting away from that.I was the one that always was picked last in any team.
I was also unfortunate enough to grow up in the era when attitudes towards these activities,by teachers was entirely different to anything that would be acceptable today. From the getting ready for PE to actually doing it.It was torture and some of it would be seen as mild child abuse nowadays.I can hardly believe that I survived it all.No wonder I couldn’t wait to leave school.

Year 12 I did a special education system, I did year 12 over 2 years. This was due to my time away from high school, touring with the Australian Schoolboys Rugby team.

In my 2nd year of year 12, a number of time the teacher were away & I took the class.

PE was my favorite class in school

I hated PE and school in general too.
I barely cared enough to even show up.
I finally signed up for correspondence, and was able to get my required PE credits through horsemanship at the local college.
I earned a couple of college credits at the same time.
The fun part was being able tell everyone that I was done and out of highschool, they still had a whole semester to finish.

I didn't MIND PhysEd, but I didn't really enjoy it because I hated getting all sweaty in school. Luckily a lot of the time I got to be a locker room monitor because I played both baseball and football on the school teams and participating in a sport could get one out of actual PhysEd activities. Generally I only had to take the classes themselves during basketball season.

I felt the same about being at school and having to do PE, it was awful.

We also had a very suspicious gym teacher too. I wont elaborate.

I went on to enjoy keeping fit, but on my terms and no competitive, team sports...

I always thought that the same way non athletic kids are forced to attend PE, athletic ones should be forced to do an extra hour of math or essay writing.

I'm sure it's a sentiment shared by many of us. Sadly.
