one time i stole out of a store and almost went to jail the alarm beeped on our bag but after checking it not finding anything they let us go

Unless it was something kind of expensive or several unpaid items, I doubt they would have called in the d4mned police.
USUALLY the ones that stores are focused on are the really evident thieves, not someone with a small cheap item that they forgot to pay for. Best not to chance it either way I suppose.
But yeah, ometimes those door alarms go off at random.
