It is like at work for me. We need a smart card with a chip to open all doors, even internal, use all elevators, and our computers.
Well, I got up to use the bathroom and left my card in my computer. The doors open freely on the way out, for emergencies, and that was the same way to the restroom.
Unfortunately I was the only one in my office suite on that floor (long story). The elevators do not require a card to enter, but require a card to activate the buttons for top floors. The ground floor is not restricted. So I went down to the guard desk.
He told me I would need to go to the ID office to get a temporary ID. On the way there I saw some admin staff at an orientation table (it was the first week for many of us, in a new building). One lady was nice enough to walk me back up and open all the doors. I took my ID out of my computer and she confirmed it was me (it has a photo).
Now, I habitually check to make sure I have my ID before leaving my cube, even to piss.
