I got stranded in an unfamiliar town with a dead cellphone at 3am. I asked my family to book me a hotel room and begged them to tell the hotel I was dishevelled due to the long bus ride. I begged for almost 30 minutes with my remaining battery life for my family to tell the clerk I looked dirty but wasn't a homeless person. My family lied to me and were too lazy to tell the clerk I looked dirty. I got rejected by the hotel. Long story short, I tried to seek help outside and ended up getting mugged. The police didn't care and even insulted me.
What would I have done differently? I should have booked three other hotels as back up before my phone died. I should have also booked a long but useless Uber ride to a safer area as a means to charge my phone. I shouldn't have trusted anybody who pretended to help me.
