if your prone to having nightmares when you're worrying

is it understandable to not want to sleep in the pitch dark? i feel afraid on certain nights, especially when i'm going through times of worry, because i know i could have bad dreams.....i live by myself, dealing with difficult mental problems, with my only support being my elderly parents who live quite far away now.

do you think it's best to sleep with a night light on?

It's completely understandable. You gotta be comfortable to get the best sleep. Having a night light, white noise or TV on running in the background are some strategies. Also, something I've had to do recently was filter what I watch, listen to or read. I personally struggle with PTSD, it doesn't take much to incite a nightmare. I had one recently two nights ago because I was binge watching something that was graphic in nature, though it was more descriptive than visual. Still, it manifested in a nightmare intertwining it with trauma I already deal with. So there's truth to "guarding your heart and mind" with these things, especially if you're prone to nightmares or sleep paralysis. You're not strange for trying to relax your mind in your night time routine to try to keep from nightmares.

@RedGrizzly yes i think ' guarding your heart and mind' is very important, especially in today's times, there are always challenges now and i think it's harder if you already have mental health problems to deal with, still in spite of my adversities, i think i'm doing alright at the moment, thanks for answering too.
