Wow that is complicated. Friends are hard to find and keep. Acquaintances depend on context like the games but these can become friends also. I guess you should not write off acquaintances just because it is a game. All acquaintances are like that - if you meet them at school or work or socially. These are the pools where you find friends I guess.
You sound fine btw. You cannot force friendships just be open to them developing.
Friendships are not time defined and can be brief or long standing. You just cannot tell ahead of time.
