loneliness is a terrible thing, do you agree

when you're completely alone, lived alone 20 years....know no one, have no support except your elderly parents who live far away.....and you are desperate for companionship, companionship which is very hard work to get, especially in this age......now society just leaves you to it, to rot.

this is driving me crazy what can i do?

Try volunteering for a community activity. There might be groups that go around cleaning up parks where you live, or there might be a group that maintains a hiking trail. Could be a food bank nearby where you could help out.

Try googling for volunteer opportunities and the name of your town or county or nearby city.

AND,when you start to volunteer, don't be in a hurry about connecting with your fellow volunteers. Ask them about themselves but don't push it. If you're a quiet guy, then be a quiet guy who wants to help out. Be patient.

Check your local park district for sports requiring partners if you are into sports. Volunteer at an animal shelter if you are patient and can wait for the animals to trust you. Volunteer at a food pantry. If you belong to a church, check out small groups, monthly pot-luck suppers, and special interest groups (a church near us fixes people's cars for only the cost of parts). Focus on the Family is a good source of people who will discuss your needs and offer counseling referrals. Their regular phone number is 1-800-AFAMILY (1-800-232-6459), or for more immediate help, 1-855-771-HELP (1-855-771-4357). I hope that you find the help and companionship you need.
