I hate being alone in the house.

Ever since my husband went to his home country to visit his family/friends last week, I have been very scared of being alone in the house, I have phobia of the dark, in the day it seems fine but at night I imagine the worst, I started boarding up the main doors and closing all the windows shut, I check the locks multiple times even though I have security alarms and everything I still check it again, ,,before I lived with my husband I used to live with some other friends for many years and before that I was living with my family so I never really experienced the feeling of living alone.

Few years ago I sold a valuable watch to a woman I met online and few weeks later she sends me many messages and pictures of herself beaten up and battered saying someone had broken into her house and stolen the watch after seeing her in the streets wearing it!!! I told her how could that happen plenty of people are wearing similar or better watches in the streets no one attacked them? she said she was living alone and they had been monitoring her, I told my husband he said you really dodge a bullet by selling it that could have been you! back then we weren't living together and I was kind of living alone but in a secure building.

I wonder how other people do it? I have always been scared of the silence and darkness to the point I don't watch any horror before sleep just to keep on safe side lol.

Now make some popcorn...something to drink and watch either the Exorcist or Sinister....you'll be too scared watching the movie and totally absorbed you won't think about being alone:)

Without getting personal, if you had some kind of trauma in your life that may have helped spark your fear of living alone, you may want to look at that with or without someone that could help.
Other than that, I would tell you it can take time for some, longer than others. I'm not afraid of living alone. I've been doing it for decades. But he is incredible I always like to have some background noise. I usually always have the TV on or the radio on. If you have some friends that understand how you feel about being alone see if you can call them occasionally. I think in time you will find that you'll be calling them less and less. You'll need to really work on your mind control when it comes to feeling the worst will happen. It can be difficult but you can do it. Be patient with yourself. You may want to try using some positive affirmations when you feel yourself getting tense. Stay connected to the outside world in some way until you feel comfortable. TV, radio, friends and/or family. Try very hard not to let the dark thoughts in your mind overtake the good thoughts and peaceful feelings. It takes time but you can get there. 😊

@Elisbch I think your right when I was young I used to watch so many horror movies with my older sister and she used to tell me come sleep with me tonight so we don't get scared, I saw ghosts in my wardrobe, ghosts in the living room, skulls in the trees, ghost in the neighbors house, and so on,but this all stopped when I grew up, however I am still scared of the dark and being alone, I have my son with me of course but he is only a toddler not like my husband who is big and strong, I always thought if we have an intruder or a ghost he will first take him then we have time to escape and save ourselves, my husband would gladly do it too.

Why didn't you go with your husband?

Also if you are that afraid why not buy a firearm and learn to use it and or get a dog that capable it defending you
