A lesson for all of us ?

Yes and no.
Almost all of us are descended from migrants of one sort or another.
Every first generation (and sometimes a few succeeding generations) tries to replicate what they loved about where they came from - but that didn't mean they wanted to replicate everything. The Pilgrims wanted to escape persecution but became persecutors of the First Nations people. Asylum seekers don't want to recreate the political and religious persecution happening in their countries of origin, nor the poverty.

Yet people bring weeds, feral animals, inappropriate agricultural methods and industries that destroy their new environments.

Each of us has to learn how to adapt to changing circumstances.
We need to be welcoming, understanding and helpful.
Get to know each other. Work out what new things work and what doesn't.
Learn how to cooperate and get along.

Our migrants where I live have been a huge gift to the diversity and well being of the whole community -
but we still have tragic and as yet unresolved problems for the first nations peoples whom our ancestors stole from, massacred, enslaved, raped and tortured.
