I Have Learned A Few Life Lessons
A friend became a bestie last night. We were listening to music, and we headbanged the same choons, we shared the same moments, and we even went to a few songs that got us out of dark places. This was at my barbecue.. But there it is. So, he realised how close we are, and he told me his brother and his Mrs are having a baby. Nobody else in the world knew, but he chose me. Wow. What a moment!!
So, I reciprocated. I told him something nobody else knows but me, my Mrs, my Uncle and his wife. This part of my family lived in Colombia for 38 years, and I'm from the UK. They weren't rich, but they managed to visit a few times over the years (I live in the UK). I always felt infinitely closer to them than to my birth family.
Well. I spent 2 weeks with them in their new home in California recently, because my uncle has Alzheimer's and I had to see him before he forgets who I am. They sat me down on a park bench, and they told me. She had an abortion, about the same time I was born. BOOM. It was out there. Now I know why our embraces sometimes cracked my ribs. They're my family. My sister (by blood my cousin) needs help to get to scholarship so she can continue studying after college. My Mum needs help looking after my Dad.
Here I am in England working at Maccy's feeling like a dumpster.
Then Ricky said this, the only thing he could say. Step back. Think. Then Step Up.
Simple, but somehow infinitely effective. Break it down. Work it out. Act. That was my life lesson. Stop panicking, feeling bad, etc. Live it. Like that.
