When you were growing up, did your parents routinely have "before dinner drinks"?

My parents did not, although they sometimes had them when we went to a restaurant.
My wife's parents did this at just about every dinner.

This sometimes led to an awkward conflict of expectations at extended family gatherings.

My parents did not. But my in laws practice that. There are drinks before meals, during meals and after meals. 😂 This usually happens during lunches that lasted 3hrs.

They don’t consume a lot in one go. But wines and liqueurs are staples of lunches. I’ve never really adapted that practice. They know that my limit will always be one glass of wine, regardless of how many kinds of wines are opened.
