Why does it end?

I just recently been going through my DMs and finding some people I‘ve been chatting with for years who just stopped to reply one day. They just dont reply anymore. A couple of years back, this really hurt, and I can still feel that. But I personally never understood, why they wouldnt not talk about it and then never chat again. Maybe its about control.
