why online friendships rarely work out

when i talk to women online, it often never works out and don't hear from them again...like this girl from the u.s which i was chatting to online 8 months ago, she was put off me because i wrote long messages to her and i never heard from her again because of that? i thought she seemed interested in chatting to me at the time, but i got that wrong., i suppose i came over as too keen on her.

it's disappointing because i always build my hopes up.
