When you put things in alphabetical order do you have to sing the alphabet?

No, and I've never heard anyone do that, but if it helps you remember it, then why not sing it?

I simply recite the relevant part of the alphabet to myself, if I need.

I often go through the alphabet when I'm thinking of letters 😂 I do sing the song as I go
