Curiosity is a wonderful thing

Why do some countries want to be ruled by another ? Is the idea of Independence too out of the Ordinary for them ? Places like Scotland , Wales and Norther Ireland accept being ruled by London with no problem at all ? Please satisfy my curiosity

Scotland is not totally ruled by London. Also not all Scots are happy that they aren't totally independent.[image deleted]

@Fluffybull S if Scotland vote to stay in the EU thats okay with London ?
Fluffybull · F
@KALIS BRITAIN voted to leave the EU. Scotland is part of Britain

@Fluffybull Thats what I mean , they are ruled by Britain not themselved

@KALIS They are NOT totally ruled by Westminster! Scotland has a devolved government which includes health, education, the police, taxation, to name a few. Why don't you research before making sweeping generalisations? Scotland also had different rules re COVID from England. So did Wales.

@Fluffybull If they are not ruled by london, how come they can't join the EU? and have their own song in The Eurovision ?
@KALIS London is a city. Westminster is the English and British Parliament, and also the name of the British system of democracy. Scotland has its own parliament for legislating Scottish law.
Scottish law is different in many respects. For instance, in Scotland a person arrested for a crime is guilty until proven innocent.
As for the oil, all of Britain is acutely aware that the days of fossil fuels are numbered. BP (British Petroleum) is already investing and preparing for the changes. Massive arrays of offshore wind-turbines are now producing cheaper and cleaner power. Within the next 10 to 30 years, fossil fuels will become obsolete.
If you're really curious about why the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish remain part of the UK (despite many protesters) read their online newspapers or look up Wiki. Real answers come from research. Social sites are the least reliable place to get facts.

@hartfire I read tons on Britain and its economy. I have totally come to the conclusion so far as to see that Scotland can't even decide on when London will allow them to have a referendum on Independence. Scotland had so limited rule that it's obvious that London control and rule them even with basic referendums. That's called control and the scotish people won't fight against this control . Yes ?
@KALIS Scotland is not all one, not unanimous in its desire for belonging or independence. As I said before, the majority vote has only a slim margin.
I have a feeling that whatever reasons I proposed to explain the current situation, you would argue against.
So please tell me, why do you think these countries currently (by a whisker) choose to remain united with the UK?

What other alliances can you think of where independent states join together as a block? Why do they do so?
KALIS · 41-45
@hartfire Thats my question exactly. Why do scotland not want independense from Britain. Are they scared of indy? Seems cowardly . Really. Every country want independense except the countries i mentioned. What a cowardly people
@KALIS
Ho hum.
1. not all Scots wish to be united with the UK. About 49% do want independence.
2. The USA is a confederation of 51 independent states. California alone is populous enough that if it separated it could easily survive independently in all senses. Would you call it cowardly for not seceding?
3. The European Union thrives better as an amalgamation of nation states. only the UK has ceded. Brexit was driven mainly by a popular aversion to the recent floods of refugees but was also intensely manipulated by political forces. Even now, the UK suffers from the economic hit of the separation.

Curiosity needs answering not just with info but with analytical thinking.

Do you really believe entire countries make choices purely based on emotions?

Usually it's the hard practical issues like survival and economics that tip the balance in decisions.

@hartfire I don't know about US states , but I do know that a country like scotland or wales cannot stand up to London and like being ruled by London. I just think it's more than Pathetic. Scotish Nationalism is just a bunch of peopel afraid to rule themselves
