I Find This Disturbing

I had a friend (she's now dead) who confided in me several years ago that she was a victim of ongoing sexual abuse. I don't know if that's anything like the news you got from your friend, but I know I definitely found it haunting and disturbing. It was so hard to not be able to put a stop to what was happening, though some friends and I did help her to move out of the house where it was happening. Hang in there with her - I'm sure she'll appreciate it! And don't forget - your reactions are worthy of care, too. There is such a thing as 'secondary trauma' - when we experience a small measure of another person's trauma, just as if it were done to us.
