Four years ago I was in a near fatal car accident. I was thrown from my car upon entering an on ramp to I480. I was rushed to the hospital with mutiple injuries, one being a badly dislocated hip.
Four years later this hip started giving me more problems and I had to have a total hip replacement. Now this was very alarming to me and I declined the operation. My baby sister tried to talk me into the operation and of course I wasn't trying to listen. But then she said, " You may think I am being selfish but I want the sister I had before the car accident. The one who did fun things and kept us all laughing."
I turned around to look at her and she looked away from me. There were tears running down her face and she continued, "Please don't get mad at me, I'm so glad we did not lose you and we could have. But, every since that accident you just haven't really been you." I didn't know what to say. I didn't think I had changed that much.
She came over and hugged me really hard and said, "I want my sister back. The one who loved doing everything. You once told me the world was meant to be discovered, loved, and designed a little better than before. You have pain so badly now you can't bargain shop or even drive. You never go out anymore with us. Your nieces and I miss you so much. Could you just consider the operation, again? You know maybe you could get your life back and we could have you back, too!
It wasn't until that moment I really saw myself and my life for real. Sometimes we just live out what we can have in fear. I was so thankful I did not die in that car crash that asking for my life as it was before seemed somehow impossible. My sister made me see that I had always believed life should be so much more. I had that operation and my life gets better everyday. And all because I had renewed my familys' life in the past and they made me renew my life in the now! Peace and Love to you all!
