I Like Running On Different Surfaces

Newbie.... My heart and my lungs are begging me to do more real cardio work so I have started running. I honestly didn't think I would like it but have found that if I can push through that first quarter mile and not listen to the little voices in my body telling me I should quit I love it.

I have started on a track at the local high school and really like the soft asphalt surface. I don't like that it is black and has no shade during the day!!

I'm thinking of making a cross country type course at the house. I have the space and could make a nice long trail.

Long ago when I started running again after a long break I found a track in a park and I waited until I could do a mile without getting breathless before I hit the streets. Running around in circles or on a treadmill sucks, but it is a good way to start, to get your confidence.
But once you get the hang of regulating your breathing and everything it is ...exhilarating. The sense of accomplishment is the thing.
Cross country is amazing but you have to be in such good shape that you can concentrate on not spraining your ankle instead of worrying about everything else (breathing , pain , hills etc)
Still, as a lover of street running, I applaud your ambition. Great luck!

Thanks!! I have two tracks that I go to now. It's funny because I am in decent shape but being in running condition is soooo different. I am serious about a trail here in my yard.

That would be ideal! If you make a trail in your yard will you run naked?

I have known people who considered themselves "in shape" who could not run 1/10th of a mile. It is a different kind of "in shape" entirely. I think the idea of a yard trail is awesome. Really. Cool.

It is!! I want that type of in-shape. I can work like a dog for 12 hours a day in the 90 degree Atlanta heat but running is another story!!!

Hmmmm...running naked? I might. Good thing they spray for mosquitoes at our house!!
