I Vandalized A Birthday Card
One day I was in a store with some classmates. My friend was looking at birthday cards, when she said, "Oh, wow. This is really offensive." I came over to her and looked at the card.
The front of the card had a picture of a distraught man standing on the ledge of a building, and another person inside the window telling him,
"You're on the first floor. Those are ants down there, not people."
The inside of the card read:
"Happy birthday. Jump for joy."
This was a card telling the recipient to kill themselves.
Suicide is a near-constant thought in my head, every day. The only thing that keeps me from an attempt is my family.
I know I am not the only person with these feelings. To me, the card was an outrage. I did not want anyone else to stumble upon this card, and then commit... the unthinkable.
I took out a pencil and wrote:
"Never jump. Someone out there cares about you - I care about you. Please. Keep going and have more birthdays."
