I Got Flooded
Saturday August 24 2013...... Got up on Saturday morning .. And had to cycle a couple of miles to see a client ...looked out the window .. Saw them dark clouds .. And thought "the weathers turning bad"
So.. Cycled to my customer .. And it started raining .. Quite heavily ...
Luckily .. Got home before it really come down in buckets ..unlike my wife, who was at her mothers house and out shopping ... She phoned me from her mums house to say she would cycle home regardless of the rain .. But could I get some fish and chip take-away !!
I set out for the dinner
She cycled home
And when she got home .. She was soaked thru to the skin !!
I'd noticed the stream at the bottom of the garden was swelling up, and started to get a little worried :(
My wife got changed into her dry clothes .. And we proceeded to eat dinner ...
And the rain hammered down
Heavier and heavier...
The satellite tv stopped working
The sound of the rain was incredible ....
And still it kept falling ..
The time was approaching 1600 .. It had been raining all day .. and showed no signs of letting off...
So I went to the kitchen .. To wash dishes from dinner...
And noticed some water coming out of the drains .. Flowing into the bathroom ... Oh dear :( this don't look good !!
So gathered some blankets and sheets and towels ..
And started mopping and scooping up the water ... As it come In ... Faster and faster
My wife was scooping
I was scooping and throwing water out the front door ..
The concervatory flooded .. As the water come over the back door step ...
More towels and sheets !!
At one point . It was coming in faster than I could get it out ... So I telephoned the emergency services ...
They told me the last 60 calls or so had all been about the floods ....but the fire brigade would be here asap ...
Two or three hours later ..
The rain was subsiding now ..
The fire brigade still hadnt turned up ..
So I cancelled them.. They were probably up to their necks somewhere !!!!
Then the huge cleanup started !!!
5 washes in the washing machine to clean the sodden towels and blankets ..
Mopping the floors
Drying said towels n stuff in the Tumbler !!!
Still .. I suppose it got me out of going to work for the eve !!!!
What a storm ..
It happened about 8-9 years ago ..
And they said it was a "once in 40 year thing"
The whole of south east Essex had these floods yesterday .. And the seafront / boardwalk was several feet deep !!
We are all ok .. Just feeling a bit "washed-out" (pun intended) !!!!
