What do you think of l'appel du vide?

L'appel du vide are intrusive thoughts or the urge to do self-destructive behavior. Things like for example standing on a cliff and feeling an unexplainable urge to jump even though you're not suicidal or anything like that.

Have you ever felt L'appel du vide? What do you think of it?
I personally find it super interesting. I wonder if there is any underlying psychological reason for it. 🤔
