I can't swim but need to learn, did any of you learn to swim in the sea instead of the chlorine bath ?

I can't swim but regularly go out on a boat, need to learn how to swim but no way going to a swimming pool, if any of you learnt how to swim in the sea please tell me how ?
P.s please feel free to take the piss I would

Why won't you go to a swimming pool? I think learning to swim in the sea is quite a bit harder and I wouldn't enjoy all the gulps of unwanted salt water, but it should be safe as long as you stay in the areas where you can stand and you have someone with you.
