I had a very severe case of Amnesia and it forever changed my life

Nothing will be more freighting then waking up from a month long Coma and not even knowing whose surrounding your bed. A few years back I had gotten into a bad wreck (wasn't the driver) Docs managed to keep me alive but I was comatose. When I awoke......... I was surrounded by my sister, my mom and dad and my late girlfrind amd I didnt even know who they were. I didn't even remember my own name or my life. It took many months to regain the core memories my name and etc... But even today while i type this i still have memories I have still not yet uncovered yet. Sometimes I wonder if the dreams I have are those memories trying to resurface but it's still hard and I'm still very damaged from the whole ordeal

That would really ****!! I'm sorry for everything you have had to suffer, and I'm glad you pulled through. Have you ever tried keeping a dream journal? I think REM sleep is special, and it may well be that your brain is trying to make new connections, or maybe even reestablish old ones, and perhaps it may aid your recovery to record them, so you have something to reference in your own mind/brain, which, while not the memory itself, it may trigger you to remember some piece of information about yourself and your life. Amnesia is something I'm more than a little curious about, and I want to help people sleep better. So if you need some one to listen, I'm here. :-D

Thank you for commenting with kindness I did keep a dream journal when I sought to recover the core memories though I've never had time to make one for the others and it's not really fun at all the worst is those few teasing and making fun of me when I forget things due to the trauma giving me short term memory loss which my doc thinks may be permanent due to the strain on my mind

Shame on them! That's not nice at all! Well, as you know from experience then, they can be very benificial. It's important to get the right amount of sleep, especially since you're trying to recover as much as possible from a TBI. It's really sad that more people don't try to understand more about TBIs. It'd certainly lead to more compassion, don't you agree?

I have PTSD, and while not an injury of your magnitude, it certainly has had lasting effects, even almost ten years after I acquired it.
