'Let herself go'

I've just been talking about this at work, someone used that phrase after seeing a picture of someone famous. I really hate it, it's implying there is some obligation to looking a certain way and if you don't fit it, your worth is diminished.

What do you think? And are there any other 'every day phrases' that are widely used that you don't like?
I just think society in general puts so much emphasis on looking good, but not enough on doing good or doing things that are healthy for the mind and body.

I know what you mean but it can be a phrase of concern also. One of the first signs of depression is people not taking care of their appearance.

It wasn't said with concern in this case.

But my point is about judging what is or isn't someone taking care of their appearance. Anyone who doesn't make having a 'gym body' their priority is looked down on.
