There are nice ways and rotten ways to correct a definition. It depends on the words you use and the attitude that is conveyed (yes, it can be done online)in offering corrections.
For instance, myself - I was online with another friend from SM who ist/was teaching me German (at my request) und someone who saw what I had said in a mix of Englisch und Deutsch offered to connect me with another person on Social Media who couldn't spell if his life depended on it. He thought I was misspelling Englisch words! I was polite in my refusual and explaining the meaning behind using German words (to keep them fresh and in check) and explaining some Deutschland words look like they are misspelled. Never heard from him again.
