Well the average wage needed to live independently in the US is something like 28/hr at 40hrs/wk last I checked a few years ago, Can't say I ever saw a babysitting gig offer even half as much, so...

@ZulXeroth I mean we pay $100 an hour because we have four kids. So that’s 25 an hour per kid which is close enough.

@TurtlePink That is way more than I have ever seen offered. I#ve not been living in the states for a few years though so idk.

@ZulXeroth well it’s reasonable especially for 4 kids under the age of 10. I mean the 10 year old is fine on her own but we also have a 6 month old and a 2 year old who is clingy and never wants to stay in bed and a 6 year old who is hard to handle sometimes. I mean, they are just like any other kid, but you are still taking on a big role so that’s why we price it accordingly. Many parents think that they can just get away with paying you $50 to watch their 8 kids who bite for eight hours. And unfortunately, those parents exist and are the reasons why I believe child care is a real job and people should be fair and pay their babysitters right!

@TurtlePink Lol, yeah the later example is pretty much what I expect, what you actually offer is Humane. Weird contrast.

@ZulXeroth well because I’ve been in that position where I had to take on 3 nonverbal kids who bite and then an eight month old and a year old. This was back when I was living on my own and was desperate for money and they only paid me $80 but they would go to the casino every Friday and Saturday night and come back with like $3000 and only pay me $80 and then give me a $20 tip but I was watching their kids from 2 PM to 12 AM. And if they were late, they never compensated me. So then I raised my prices and they fired me.
We gotta stop letting parents take advantage of vulnerable people who are doing you a big favor who also don’t make much or are also in college. like how daycare teachers get taken advantage of that’s why I don’t believe in universal child care. I’m not saying that parenting is a punishment but if you have a kid you need to pay for your kid to be watched. The government shouldn’t have to do it. I shouldn’t have to be understanding that you can’t afford to pay me my fair share but then you come back home from the casino with thousands of dollars. Parents do that with babysitters and it’s disgusting.
