Peace That Passes All Understanding in Times of Great Trouble and Sorrow

"God's peace that passes all understanding" means a deep inner calmness and serenity that comes from a relationship with God and His son Jesus, which is so profound, that it cannot be fully comprehended by the human mind, even when facing difficult circumstances; it's a peace that transcends logical reasoning and surpasses any other kind of peace one might experience in life.

The peace "that passes all understanding" is the peace we have with God, a peace that is created by Jesus' life, death, and made possible by His work on the cross.

This phrase is found in the Bible, specifically Philippians 4:7, which says "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I remember when my mother and father passed within 4 months of each other, in 1998. Not long after, my husband passed in 2005. I have lived alone since, but not by myself, exactly. Jesus has loved me, taken care of me, comforted me in times I felt lonely, and has given me that peace which passes all understanding He promised. And though there are times I still might feel lonely, I know that I'm not alone....big difference!...as I know Jesus loves me, walks beside me, comforts me, and will never abandon me.

I still remember how Jesus gave my heart that peace, even as I stood by each of their caskets and grave sites. I knew He was right there beside me, sharing my grief and sorrow; there to comfort me, and indeed, He gave me that peace, just as He promised. This peace is not just the absence of external conflict, but a deep inner calmness, that can remain even amidst the most challenging situations. The "passing all understanding" part, signifies that this peace cannot be fully explained nor understood by human intellect alone, but is experienced through faith and trust in Christ

At that moment, just knowing where my loved ones were, and that Jesus is holding and protecting them lovingly in His arms, taking good care of them until I can reunite with them again, took the "sting" right out of death. Just knowing Jesus had the whole thing in control, filled me with great hope, joy, and promise, even then. Knowing His promises, I knew I would see them once again and be with them forever, in His Kingdom. I was reminded of that verse from the Bible that says,

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 - “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"

God's power is limitless. He can accomplish anything, no matter how difficult it may seem.

Luke 18:27: "The things which are impossible with men, are possible with God."

1 Peter 1:3
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead".

2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old way of life has passed away; behold, the new has come!"
