I think one thing holding it back is the confederation, which the US tried and rejected.

One result is that Canada looks like a collection of provinces to outside businesses, so to have ~1/11 th of the US' population and broken up into ten provinces & 3 territories makes it unattractive tondo business in most places except Ontario (the economic engine of Canada).

There are also a large number of cartels which make prices high, and huge rifts along both the bilingual front (Québèc's demands based upon whining about pulling out and how that tail has wagged the Canadian dog) and the rural fronts (W Canada minus BC against E Canada). There have been a number of political scandals and Senators are lifetime appointments which is silly and has led to abuse in spending.

We have allowed too much outside nefarious influence and have become, evidently, a fascist-socialist-comunist neo state, something out of Orwellian doctrine, or such. Unprecedented, and dangerous, given the last 4 years or so.

Because Canada was the first one to come up with wrench and screwdrivers,i guess. It was on sale in Canada on its independence day. Since then, everybody, every home has been screwing it free of cost.
