Should we have empathy for everyone ?

This is something I firmly believe in but I'm currently unable to genuinely feel it and it makes me feel shitty, it's like they've won somehow because it's not who I am normally.

@AntisocialTroll I am struggling with the dilemna ; is it my fault or is it their fault that I feel no empathy at times ? I can understand many times but I do not feel the need to go over and pat on the head, give comforting hugs and such.

@revenant I can completely relate. I'm starting to think that it might be a protection mechanism, those that have no empathy ever are usually quite dangerous either mentally or physically and I think our own empathy shutdown might be necessary in order to get either the emotional or physical distance we need from people who are bad to be around.

I'm kinda hoping my empathy for those that are currently a nightmare to me will kick back in once I'm away from the situation. That doesn't mean that I think I'll ever forgive or forget but I recognise even psychopaths don't choose to be that way.

@AntisocialTroll There is so much we still do not understand. Some people are just like poison and their ways can be contagious.
@AntisocialTroll You're one of the best people I know.

@TheFlippantSide I'm really struggling not to hate certain people, it makes me feel like I'm bad, I have mad fantasies about hurting them at times and I don't like it, makes me feel as bad as them.
@AntisocialTroll Everyone struggles with that, as we should. It's not meant to be a comfortable place for anyone. I'm sure Gandhi wanted to punch someone in the mouth, at some point. You have a heart of gold.
