What was something that was hard for you to understand growing up?

Did anyone else think the trees were moving as you drove past them? I did. My little four year old sleepy self, full bellied, draped in daisy chains and ice cream stains all over my seersucker Sunday dress and black Mary janes.

That screened in porch, the soporific creaking of a wooden swing, backdropped by the waning warm sun of sleepy June afternoons.

Nestled In the backseat, buckled tight for the journey home, half alive, almost asleep, comforted by the sound of mom and dads voices and road noises, I’d nod in and out of reality, consciousness, dream state then awake, and study the moonlit trees passing me by.

I was too embarrassed to ask why the trees were following us, moving the opposite way or something I still can’t explain… . as they whooshed by my window so quickly like a video game. I was the pawn, the little man was jumping up and down through the trees, jumping over barns and fences and with my little girl skinned knees.

When I was little kid and heard adults talk about God I thought it was just a story, like Santa Claus. Just something they told to kids so they'd behave. But adults kept insisting they really believed in God and heaven. It confused me.
