For a second grader, do you think waking 0.8 miles to get to school is too far?

Clearly I’m not gonna make her walk that, I’ll drive her but I just can’t believe that’s considered walking distance for an elementary. And even if we walked together, what about me having to walk all that way back home 💀💀

How old are second graders?
@agetheweebeast she’s 7
@agetheweebeast but kids in her class are 7 or 8

@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart I mean, I guess I wouldn't want my 7 year old to walk alone for sure but if you're walking with her it's what, a 10 minute walk, 15 max. I think that's a healthy distance for a 7 year old to do to be honest.

@agetheweebeast hey, just my opinion it's your kid :) I used to walk mine a mile around a lake when she was just over 2 years old, didn't do her any harm. And in all weathers, granted I live in the UK so we aren't talking extreme weather. Minus 2c at worst to plus 30c at the most.
@agetheweebeast Thats so cute. I’ll give it a try. I’m sitting here smiling actually because I now think it would be good for us

@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart That's awesome! I really think it will give you time to bond, it's definitely good for kids to get moving and will help her sleep and keep her weight down. Also help reduce anxiety and stress. I hope it works out for you guys x
@agetheweebeast And I’m just imagining all the little conversations we’ll have with each other on the way. But she’s actually small for her age and so until she gets older, I would be walking with her

@TurtleEclipseOfTheHeart exactly, kids are often more comfortable talking when you aren't directly face to face. Being next to one another, and having the little distractions around, you will be surprised what she will come out with I am sure!
