Not sure if anyone else has this experience but I've noticed the more friendly someone is at the beginning the more toxic they seem to become later.

It can be. I see why you think that. But remember people are various. There will be some who are that way and some who aren't.

Most are on their best behavior in the beginning and testing the water but eventuality their true colors come thru

I've noticed something similar in relationships. The more wonderful she thinks I am, the crazier she turns out to be later.
