Is it a real disorder when you rack up your credit card on things you don’t need but want in order to make you feel better when you’re depressed?

It's a maladaptive coping mechanism, i.e. an avoidance behaviour. It's not uncommon with depression though, because it's fairly normal to look for solutions in all the wrong places.
