If the traffic light is still yellow when you’ve crossed the stop line, you should not get a ticket. If the light is red and and you cross the stop line, you should get a ticket. This is the rule of thumb with intersections in the US that have red light cameras. Also, if a traffic light does not remain yellow for four seconds or more in any intersection that is 45MPH or higher, any ticket can be challenged if you prove in court the light is not properly timed.
