Does It Annoy You Some, When Someone Disregards What You've Just Told Them Your Name Is?

Let's say you've just met someone, either on the phone or in person. You tell them your name is William, or Debbie. They then shorten it or add onto it, and call you Billy or Deb.

Sometimes...my name is Pamela, but most always say Pam. Seems most people always want the shorter version of a name? 🤷

@Peaches I'm gonna shorten "Peaches" to "Peas" from now on! 😂

@Peaches Of course! What was I thinking? 🤦‍♂️

@DrWatson Well I already use my REAL nickname here...[c=#BF6900]Peaches🍑😉[/c]

@DrWatson @Peaches Maybe "Peaches and Peas" will be the next famous singing duo! 😉
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Peapod Maybe so. I can't think of any other context where Peaches and Peas would go together!

@Peaches "Sometimes" is a key word, I think, concerning this general question. My given name is Patricia, and people often shorten it to Pat. I've never been a "Pat". If someone yelled PAT in a public place, I doubt I'd even turn my head. Still, it's no big deal unless I've just said to someone.... "you can call me Patti".

@Piper Okay, 😊thanks for saying. My youngest sister's name is Patricia, we call her "Tisha."
