Does It Annoy You Some, When Someone Disregards What You've Just Told Them Your Name Is?

Let's say you've just met someone, either on the phone or in person. You tell them your name is William, or Debbie. They then shorten it or add onto it, and call you Billy or Deb.

My hubby does this all the time like he’s suddenly BFFs with someone. If someone introduces themselves as David, it’s David not Dave. when he met my cousin stephen he immediately called him steve. He’s never ever been a “steve” So embarassing.

@DoubleRings A man I was in a long time relationship with did that a lot, too. No matter how many times I mentioned to to him that most people don't like that, he still thought it was just fine. He still does.

@Piper Yeah also about name tags - my hubby argues with me when i tell him it’s weird af - “well why do they wear name tags then? if they didn’t like it why don’t they tell me?” i gave up. he just does what he wants anyway.

@DoubleRings When someone is wearing a name tag, I've been guilty of using that name to address them as that name also. I do usually ask first though, if they mind...and if that is actually their name.

@DoubleRings I have the opposite problem, I have a name that is not common and prefer to go by the shortened version and that is what I tell people when I introduce myself but some people seem to have to use the proper long version which I do not like.
