I think you may misunderstand what a Devil's advocate is - it was the cleric appointed by the church to argue AGAINST the notification of a new saint by digging up any dirt and advocating against the proposed beatification. It was a hell of a job, as the person nominated my well, in their heart and conscience, believe the beatification to be proper.
So I cannot see how you can conclude that 'it's not hard' to be a devils advocate these days.
Forgive me if I misunderstand you, but a devil's advocate is the priest trying to ascertain if Mother Theresa was a child molester. A hard task!
