Beach for me, it's my haven, my sanctuary. The sounds of the ocean, the smell of the salt air, it just washes everything that troubles me away. Calms me and lets me think clearer than ever.
Lakes are great, but just don't have what the beach does, for me.
@uforia Yes. I was raised in and have returned to San Diego, so I'm a beach bum through and through. Spent most of my youth at the beach, on the waves and most of my best memories are there. When things went bad, like life or relationships, it was the beach vib that washed away all of it and the best place to celebrate something wonderful. It will always be that way for me.
I've spent a lot of time in the mountains around lakes, waterfalls and streams, in deserts and forests, but I always end up back at the beach. :)
@uforia :) It's an amazing feeling if you just stop and let it in. One of my favorite places to go, especially when I was down or sad was the South Mission Beach Jetty...
Walk down to the end, which is a lot farther out than that pic shows, sit down and feel the spray wash over you, listen to the waves as the pass and crash against the stones and breathe in deep the salt air. I could stay there for hours. On good days, I'd then climb down next to the water and with my board, jump, paddle in and then ride a wave the rest of the way.
If you're ever bored enough, goggle South Mission Beach Jetty, San Diego. An aerial pic will show how long it really is. I hit all the beaches here, but That area was my go to for solitude and refection.
@uforia :) It's always nice to come across someone that gets it, that understands a part of yourself. If I could bottle all that the beach is, I'd send it to you in a heartbeat. 🏖️
@uforia Well, maybe someday it'll happen. I never thought I'd get to experience half of what I did, but I did. Maybe things will change for you, I hate to say it, really I do. I sound like the old timers that did it to me, but you're still young and have a lot a head. May I ask how locked in are you? Like middle of a country?
And please forgive my old man syndrome of saying things like "you're still young" and "when I was your age" crap. lol
@MrPerditus1 I'm not going to forgive cuz I did enjoy the way you put forward your thought to words. The nearest beach is 3hrs drive, but my dad who believes in astrology and stuff wants me not to go out at all
@MrPerditus1 there was a time when all I would do was roam about to places far away on my own, meeting new people and having new adventures... I'm still young,, but I think it's time that I rest for a while. And I'm pretty sure I'll have greater Adventures worthy of going in Discovery channel and beat the markets of Bear Grills , lol...
@uforia Fine, I can live with not being forgiven for that reason. :)
I respect anyone's thoughts and beliefs, even if I don't believe or agree with them. But, to try and force them on others, I just find it hard. I get it that your dad believes, but he should let you be your own person.
You're of an age that needs to establish yourself, to learn what you can and can't do and explore who you might want to be. But, I'm only saying something I'm sure you already know. So I won't try to force my ideals onto you.
Three hours isn't too bad. I've driven farther for my camping in the mountains here. Just need a place to hang out over night. :) Either a campground on or close to the beach. Beach camping is amazing, just take mothballs to put under your tent to get rid of sand fleas or a motel for a comfy stay.
I really hope you get the chance to step out and experience things. Yes there is a lot of crud in the world, but there are so many more amazing things.
@MrPerditus1 by the way you speak, you are experienced and I want to have you as my travel advisor, next time I choose a destination, I'll message you, gimme tips on how best to do anything there... And How I wish my dad would take a lecture from you..lol
@uforia You got it, I'll be happy to help in any way I can. I've done my fair share of traveling. A lot of it thanks to the US Army and being stationed in Europe. Gave me all kinds of opportunity to travel. Did some stateside as well.
As for your dad? No dad likes it when someone else tries to convince them to let their baby go, no matter how old they are. You can be 50 and he'd still be protective. :) But yeah, sometimes I wish I could help out that way.
But with how you sound, I'm sure with time and perseverance you can get somewhere.
Also, it's only because I made my share of mistakes that I learned how to do travel right. lol Oh boy were there mistakes.
You swing by San Diego and I'll take you too my favorite places, from Mission Beach to Balboa Park to sharing a bonfire on the beach at sunset. Then where ever else. Maybe up to Hollywood or Ansa Borego Desert. So many places to see. I'd say again if you're bored google those. I spent most of my life going to the places I mentioned.
So, I'll try not to be wheelchair bound by the time you get here. lol
@MrPerditus1 that would be fun if you are wheelchair bound. I'll push you, and by that we could talk a lot more...
You don't have to tell me to Google them, I've been using Street view for a long time, I used to walk through the streets of America whenever I got bored. Or needed to take my mind off of something.
@MrPerditus1 you'll love it here,,, there's variety like no where. 1000ands of languages and cultures. You simply can't take everything in, it's that much
