Have you spent Christmas alone?

Have you deliberately spent Xmas alone? No presents, no special lunch etc. Just another normal day sitting at home, whilst everyone else is getting merry?
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Yes When my husband was deployed and I was far from home.

@SweetMae like die hard!

Twice in Iraq and twice at home with my dog because I didn’t want to deal with my whole family.

I love them to death. But I’d go home just after Christmas. After the craziness.

@User41 That is understandable. It is a big adjustment.

One time when I got very sick, I missed celebrating Christmas Day (but had spent Christmas Eve with part of my family). I’ve never spent both days alone.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@DragonFruit yeah sickness is not a good reason to skip Xmas.
SW-User
Yeah, because I was very ill. When I was well, the family re-did Christmas for me ❤
Laughman · 46-50, M
@SW-User wow..that's nice of them. How was it Xmas 2.0?
SW-User
@Laughman better than original Christmas lol.
Was a truck driver for 26 years, spent a lot of them alone.

@PrivateHell 😟💙
No. But I keep simple now. Last year I made a cheeseball on New Year’s Eve. I usually just unpack a few Christmas decorations and buy some eggnog or make homemade hot chocolate or something else festive. A couple of days ago I made martinis with eggnog. I’d never those made before. That was fun. It’s just food. There is always a sale on candles at bath and body works. You can pick up a festive candle or buy some plain candles for your candle sticks. Buy yourself a new warm blanket and put the Macy’s parade on.

@Spoiledbrat it's just a comment, not rudeness. Anyway I've never done the eggnog. Not really practised here. But I have tried mulled wine last few years which is nice, but I prefer it chilled, not hot. Plus it's good with plum pudding.
You got the idea then. That does sound good. 😊 @Laughman
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Spoiledbrat I highly recommend it on both Xmas day and Xmas Eve :)
JustNik · 51-55, F
I haven’t. I don’t think I could ever let it be just another day. Even if I was alone, I’d still decorate, try to bake something special, watch my favorite Christmas movies. There would be less laughter but I’d still love the day.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Personally I prefer it.

I've often volunteered to work over Christmas as most people would prefer to be at home.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Picklebobble2 do you get better pay?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Laughman Do these days. I never used to. It was just another day in the schedule.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I did one year when I was 21 because I worked nights and didn’t feel like driving to my mothers house. It wasn’t bad. I slept right through it.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
I spend since years every Christmas like that. 🤷‍♀️
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Loretta78 you are living the dream
Peaches · F
@Loretta78 😟
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Peaches I don´t mind. Being alone is ok for me. Really. 🙂
I have never spent Christmas completely alone. I would probably watch movies or read a book.
Peaches · F
Yes, 😔it was very lonely.💙

A couple of times, when I was 18-21 as I wasn’t talking to my family at the time and 3 years ago. I was too depressed and withdrawn and going through drug addiction.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@SW-User sometimes family time can be tricky
Teachocolate · 51-55, F
I can be happy with myself without having to celebrate anything ..listening to my fav music..it's a learned skill😁
Virgo94 · 26-30, F
No I've never spent a Christmas alone. Although I have spent an Easter alone years ago as a kid. I was very upset.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Virgo94 yeah I think doing Xmas or Easter solo would be upsetting.
malizz · 70-79, M
Last year was my first since my wife passed away. Too late to book a turkey, I was left with lots of stuffing.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@malizz sorry to hear about your wife.
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M

JimminyChristmas · 56-60, M
I have several times.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@JimminyChristmas did you enjoy it?
JimminyChristmas · 56-60, M
@Laughman Sometimes it's nice, sometimes it sucks.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@JimminyChristmas fair enough. I don't mind Xmas with family etc.
UpsideOutInsideDown · 36-40, M
