Is it ok to marry your cousin?

I guess in some African cultures it’s normal and apparently dosent cause deformities so it obviously must be ok and it isn’t incest to them. I pointed out the fact that in places like India and Pakistan the deformities are more clear. I’m not saying only Indians and Pakistanis who participate in incest are the ONLY people in the world who end having deformed babies because that’s not true. I’m making it clear So if anybody thinks I’m coming for the Indians or Pakistanis, I’m going off of where I normally hear about the bizarre cases of mutations that come out of those 2 countries. I’m proving that deformities do happen with inbreeding.

Given that most of us our carriers for unidentifed mutations, there is a 1/16 chance that children of first cousins will inherit two copies of a faulty gene.

@SW-User That does not mean that the child will necessarily be sick.
SW-User
@ninalanyon No, that depends on the gene and what it does, but certainly increases the risk.

@SW-User How about if one cousin is adopted into the family, law still prevents them from marrying, even though there is zero risk.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@SW-User Yes, but not by much unless, as @NativeOregonian mentioned that there are 'generations of inbreeding' before. In the UK cousin marriage is perfectly legal and generally not regarded as a problem. See http://genetic-genealogy.co.uk/Toc115570145.html for tables showing the development of the rules. However a long history of cousin marriages can be a problem, see https://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/jul/04/marriage-first-cousins-birth-defects for an article on the subject.
