Have you ever rode public transportation?

I rode the bus in Chicago for 15 years (1992-2007). Let's just say you'll find some pretty interesting characters on Chicago's public transit...and some who smell like they haven't showered in DAYS. Sometimes you'll end up on an old raggedy ass bus that is literally falling apart 🤣.

Years ago I took the bus from Seattle all the way down to San Diego. Never again!

@SW-User Greyhound is quite an experience, 32 cross country trips from 1988 to 2014.

That's the bus I took. You were a brave one!@NativeOregonian

@SW-User I always viewed it as sightseeing :) Although there were a few times that got a bit hairy where fellow passengers were arrested on the side of an interstate by highway patrol.
@SW-User I took the bus from Chicago-Houston in 2012. It was a Mexican bus line called El Tornado and it actually wasn't too bad. It was better than Greyhound probably would have been.

@latinbutterfly The regional lines do seem to be better run, like Jefferson and Trailways.

Oh my! Nice memory! lol@NativeOregonian

When I went to San Diego I that was the last time I took a bus! lol@latinbutterfly
@NativeOregonian I would definitely say so.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User It certainly was eye raising LOL But seriously, the troublemakers do not seem to realize that most coach drivers are not to be messed with, they could snap most people in half without even trying to.
SW-User
lol I would imagine they would need to be hardy individuals!@NativeOregonian
@SW-User Lol the next time I went to visit family in Texas I just flew Southwest Airlines 😆. Hours quicker and the price is about the same.
SW-User
Good point for those who have never ridden a bus to think about!🤣🤣🤣 @latinbutterfly

@SW-User I remember one such incident back in '97, a trailer trash Karen and her punk son were causing trouble at night, cussing out the driver for no reason or excuse. He finally had enough and told them to shut up, that riders were trying to sleep, then the punk got one of those mini baseball bats that are usually sold at stadiums and tried rushing the driver. We were pulled over so fast and the driver had the kid restrained within it seemed like barely a few seconds. The driver instructed another passenger how to use the emergency call system. Highway patrol had two squad cars there within another 30 seconds and had both in custody right there.
@SW-User Yeah 🤣
SW-User
That is unbelievable! Did you stop taking the bus after that! lol @NativeOregonian
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@latinbutterfly And that is a big problem now, the troublemakers that could only afford Greyhound at one time are now causing issues in the air 🙄
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User LOL Nah, out of riding from 1988 to 2014, that was the only incident I personally witnessed that actually concerned me, all of the other interstate arrests were usually for substance use, getting caught drinking alcohol on the coach. One idiot kid even made the mistake of sparking a joint in the lavatory in the back LOL
SW-User
There was a rest room on the bus? The one I had didn't have one...shows you how long ago I took one! lol 🤣@NativeOregonian
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User They had them on Greyhounds going back to the 60's or so.
SW-User
Not on the one I rode on. 🤔 It must have been an old or cheap one! @NativeOregonian
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User That would be my guess, specially Seattle to San Diego. You all must have stopped every two hours or so.
SW-User
Yes we did stop several times. The bus stopped in LA and had to switch busses...what a madhouse. By the time I got to my destination, I was all crumpled up and starving. Like I said before, never again! lol @NativeOregonian
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User I have had trips like that. How long ago was it? I hated the superlong layovers the worst, my longest one was in Des Moines that lasted 14 hours, and no accomodations nearby to get any rest, but my choice of hardass chairs or a floor all that time.
SW-User
I think it took two days. It was very uncomfortable. And the guy I was sitting next to bragged to me how he knew a famous singer and how he had just spent two weeks with her and her family. I asked him 'and you are now on a bus going home'? Why didn't she give you an airplane ticket? So I assumed he was lying. @NativeOregonian
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User Most of the braggers are liars LOL
