does this happen at your work?

does this happen at your work when your coworkers compare who is a harder worker? who works more hours and trying to convince each other they need to stay later.I hate that this happens at my work but I dont want to keep saying no to the shift supervisor that I do not want to stay later. if I wanted to stay late I would. I look bad in fornt of them when i only work forty hours and they work fifty and sixty but our lives are so different, I cook everything from scrach, they eat out, they have a husband or wife and a couple kids I dont. I dont like feeling bad for this but its hard to go against peer pressure.

That happens all the time and it's despicable. It happened twice to me. Some freak next to me who works abnormally hard, like a freaking hamster on a wheel and then my manager says I need to work as hard as him. Screw that. This is the same guy who, like you said, does the later hours too, even though he doesn't have to. A complete lackey.

I look at my life and I say: "Nope, I'm not going to slave away extra hours just to please someone who's getting rich because of my efforts. I'm not going to destroy my work-life balance and my sanity". I can relate to you in every aspect; I also cook everything from scratch and the chopping up and cooking alone can take at least an hour.

I wouldn't feel bad for it. At least for me, I have too much self-respect to be dependent upon other people's thoughts - I don't care who they are. I would rather maintain a healthy life rather than trade more of it in for the sake of some promotion. I maintain the 38-40 hour week and I am not going to suck up to anyone.
@Existentior good way of looking at it, that you just do not care what other people think but i want a promotion I make a few dollars more than minimum wadge.
@Girlyfriendcollecting Yes, I thought so.
