Someone I knew had a nephew who was an alcoholic, when he'd spend all of his money on alcohol he'd get a cheap bottle of rubbing alcohol and drink it and wind up in the mental hospital for a month.

@cherokeepatti Yeah, there was a funeral here (some attendees of which were family friends) where they were incredibly poor and bought isopropyl for the drinks instead of booze because it was cheaper. They all died.

@UndeadPrivateer That man outlived his wife, and he burnt his mom's home down while drinking and she had to go live in a nursing home. I heard he sobered up and got remarried, that was about 35 years ago. I don't know how people survive drinking that.

@cherokeepatti A lot of rubbing alcohol is just denatured ethyl alcohol, same stuff you drink but with chemicals added.

@UndeadPrivateer He'd get crazy and end up in the mental hospital for a solid month each time.

@cherokeepatti IPA poisoning will do that, to be fair. Only takes about 3 oz to hit dangerous levels, less if on some antidepressants.

@UndeadPrivateer His liver was already overloaded to begin with though.

@cherokeepatti Ah yes, that'd lower the threshold even further.
